My wife’s family recently came to visit us and we wanted to take a weekend getaway together. I tend to often be the planner/coordinator and my desire is for everyone to have a great time. I put a lot of pressure on myself to put together an excellent trip for the group. I spend countless hours researching hotels, reading reviews, and finding things to do. I want to maximize the time away and the dollars spent.
Because of this there is a danger that I can take a trip and miss the journey. With all the work and effort that goes into it I can find myself coming home and realizing I totally missed out on the trip. I was so busy planning and coordinating that I missed out on the relationships and memories. I forget for a moment that it is not necessarily about what we do but who I am doing it with.
We had a wonderful weekend away. Great conversations were had, new experiences were shared, and memories were made. We took a trip and I didn’t miss the journey. As you take a trip make sure you don’t miss the journey. God has much for you along the way, we just need to slow down and enjoy.
